Janelle Clevinger
Janelle Clevinger

Janelle is the executive director of the Mental Health Association in Wilson County. (Please - no jokes about that one!)

She is the mother of one 7-year-old autistic boy (who continues to amaze her every day with his hard work, accomplishments and daggone cuteness) and a 5-year-old daughter who continues her reign as household diva.

Janelle is a graduate of the University of North Carolina's School of Journalism and misses the beauty and atmosphere of Chapel Hill. We won't tell you what year she graduated, but suffice it to say that they went to class via horseback and computers were unheard of then. Go Heels!

Her hobbies are learning everything she can about autism and autism therapies, keeping in touch with friends (old and new), horseback riding, photography, and not cleaning her house. Her musical tastes run from The Blue Nile to Josh Groban to Vivaldi. Comedy (and laughing in general) is her favorite medicine, but also she feels a great deal of gratitude toward the makers of Xanax.

Brian spends his spare time indulging in his true
passion, which is painting by numbers.  In fact, some of Brian's "painting by numbers" works are sold from time at time at yard sales and on consignment by
flea market vendors.  His "by numbers" paintings have been rejected by the Arts Council of Wilson and he was not able to meet the vendor criteria of the Whirligig Festival.

Mark Strickland

Mark Strickland

Mark is the Special Assistant for Auxiliary Services for Nash-Rocky Mount Schools.

Mark co-hosts the Monday morning "Highway Diner Spotlight."

Mark and DP take the show on the road every Monday morning at the Highway Diner on Winstead Avenue in Rocky Mount.

Mark spends his spare time scheduling appointments with friends to talk to them about a great "money making opportunity."

Dr. Cameron Matthews

Dr. Cameron Matthews

"Cameron and his beautiful wife, Rosie, moved to Rocky Mount in July, 2007.  He began teaching political science courses at North Carolina Wesleyan College that August, just months after defending his doctoral dissertation, "The Fortunes of a President: Timing and Skill in Presidential Success".  Dr. Matthews also has advanced degrees in both political science and public administration.  He's a die-hard Denver Broncos fan and a long suffering Dodger and Astros fan.  He has two cats, Meg and Addicus, as well as two dogs, Sirius (a lab-chow mix) and Fang (a Boxer-Great Dane mix).  All were rescues."

Cameron is a co-host on the Jammin 99 morning show:  "The Spotlight."

During his spare time, Cameron likes to watch old episodes of CSPAN's Washington Journal.

Gene Arnold

Gene Arnold

Gene is part of the Jammin 99 morning show:  "The Spotlight"

He's a retired Hardees executive, former North Carolina state representative, and is also on the panel of "NC Spin."

During his spare time, Gene likes to play the ukulele and is working on his cover of the hit: "Buffalo Gals."

Megan Hanks

Megan Hinkle

Megan is the Public Affairs Manager for the city of Rocky Mount.  She co-hosts "The Spotlight" on Friday mornings.  People often mistake her for Ally Sheedy.  That's "Saint Elmo's Fire" Ally Sheedy, not "Breakfast Club" Ally Sheedy.

It took about a year of DP's prodding to get her to watch "My Cousin Vinnie."  She is alarmed by anyone who has to ask what a "grit" is.

During her spare time, Megan likes to break out the old clarinet or bass drum from her high school band days just to see if she still "has it."

Check out Megan's Rocky Mount City Blog!

Mo Candy

 Mo and Candy

Mo and Candy are thrilled to be part of "The Spotlight" co-hosting to help promote events and the going-ons at the Imperial Centre for Arts and Science. Candy, Director of the Rocky Mount Children's Museum and Science Center, is very much a rolling stone, having moved and traveled extensively across the country most of her life.  On the other hand Mo, Director of the Rocky Mount Arts Center, is a relative stick-in the mud, having moved only eight times in her entire life. Both Mo and Candy bring their life long passion for the Arts and Sciences to the Community Spotlight, and greatly enjoy their excitement for teaching, promoting and sharing the Imperial Centre with the Rocky Mount community.  Find out more about what's going on in town at
http://www.imperialcentre.org/ !

Mo spends here spare time during the week plotting out her Saturday morning yard sale shopping strategy.  She spends her spare time on Saturday mornings shopping at yard sales.

Candy spends her spare time submitting humorous stories to several well known periodicals in hopes of one day being published.

Melanie Meeks
