Ron Erick Lundy

Ron Eric Lundy

Ron is the night guy on Jammin 99.  His career in communications started, not in radio, but in police dispatch.

You see, Ron always wanted to be in radio but the closest he could get to the field was operating the microphone as a police dispatcher.

He took advantage of his time in this career to hone his radio skills.  The problem came when he would blend in with his dispatch orders to police, fire, and rescue personnel useless information such as time and temperature.  In his best radio voice, it would go something like this:  "It's 58 degrees now at 5:18.  Ron Eric Lundy here on the microphone sending all units to a house fire at 300 Main St."

Besides sporadic reprimands, he was allowed to continue with this.  The end of his career in police dispatch came after he started asking 911 callers to tell their favorite police station.  It would go something like this:  "911...Ron Eric Lundy here....58 degrees now at 5:18.  What's your emergency?"

After telling their emergency situation, he would then say:  "Okay...tell us your favorite police station and the phrase that pays and we'll send a unit out."

Sometimes he would ask:  "What station sends an officer to you in the best response time?" After several complaint calls, Ron was relieved of his duties.

The police department would not allow him to take tapes of his dispatch calls and 911 calls to use as an audition tape.  Fortunately though, when he applied for a job at Jammin 99, the manager, who owned a scanner, was a big fan.  He was an instant hit on Jammin 99 among all other scanner owners in our area. Lundy says of his new career, “It’s nice to take calls now that are song requests and not those pesky emergencies.”

During his spare time, Ron watches taped episodes of his favorite shows:

Adam 12, COPS, and WKRP in Cincinnati
